Kaela d. Watson: and the d stands for degrees

Born in the lively heart of Houston and polished with a bit of Austin charm, I proudly share hometown roots with Queen Bey - honestly, what’s cooler than that?

Freshly minted from The Illustrious Prairie View A&M University with a shiny Political Science degree, I struck gold when the Margaret and J.T. Talkington Fellowship, whisked me off to Texas Tech University to earn my Master's in Mass Communication. Thinking outside the box? That’s my jam. Therefore, I was elated when I was granted the opportunity to help boost the social outreach for the Texas Tech Graduate Communication department. By spring 2022, I was crafting marketing plans, designing content, and hosting the now-legendary 'Craft and Chat' series (yes, I mashed up crafts and conversations—call it multitasking magic).

My first summer in grad school brought even more adventures when I landed the social media intern position at Proximity Learning. I single-handedly revamped their social platforms, boosting engagement, impressions, and audience like a digital alchemist. Plus, I teamed up with educational trailblazers, sharing their stories far and wide.

Post graduation, I landed the dream gig as the marketing manager for RIOT SCADA, diving headfirst into the tech world of oil & gas. Creative freedom? Check. Building a marketing department from the ground up? Double check. It’s like I hit the career jackpot twice.

And let's not forget my freelance escapades, where I wield my expertise like a digital superhero.

As a young Black woman breaking barriers in an industry where diversity is still catching up, I wear my <10% Black women with master's degrees badge with pride. The future? It’s bright, and I’m ready to keep shaking things up and making waves.

Here’s to creativity, change, and Beyonce-level greatness, one career leap at a time!
